As of 2021, there were fewer than 1500 registered Miniature Harlequin sheep in existence.

Black Sparrow Ranch was the first breeder of Harlequin sheep in the state of Oklahoma.

We are honored to contribute in preserving this rare American breed.

WHY MINI SHEEP?

Harlequin Sheep - Flashy appearance, striking contrasted spots, often with blue eyes.
Babydoll Southdown - Known as the “Teddy Bear” or “Smiling Sheep” for their fuzzy, grinning faces.
Small Stature - Miniatures are easier to handle than larger breeds and require less acreage, ideal for 4-H.
Sweet Dispositions - Inquisitive demeanor, often enjoy scratches and pets, individual personalities.
Naturally Polled / Hornless - Less likely to injure themselves, others, or to be caught in fencing. Safer for children.
Excellent Mothers - Often have unassisted births, multiples are common.
Prized Wool - Fine, medium staple length, colors of black, off-white, and gray, has a variety of uses.
Ideal Grazers - Can easily maintain lawns, pastures, vineyards, and orchards.

ABOUT US

Black Sparrow Ranch lies on 25 acres just outside of Oklahoma City in McLoud, Oklahoma. Owned by Aaron and Beth Byard, we were the very first breeders of Registered Miniature Harlequin Sheep in the state of Oklahoma. We soon expanded to also maintain a flock of Babydoll Southdown sheep.

Although the sheep are our emphasis and priority, we are also home to a couple of livestock guardian dogs named Arthur and Tilly, four spoiled housecats, and two barn cats.

Our goal is not only to improve the Harlequin and Babydoll breeds through purposeful breeding, but also to introduce these rare miniature sheep to anyone who may not have been lucky enough to cross their path.
